WHAT DOES ONE DO
WITH REDUNDANT MILLING MACHINERY?
When the Slipper Sailing Club purchased Quay Mill in
1974, it still contained some machinery, shafting
and various items which had to be removed before the
conversion could be done. The Hampshire Mills
Group was contacted and said that they could not
only move, but also find good homes for the items.
So we thought members might like to know what has
happened to it.

MILLING FAMILIES
The art of milling was often passed down through
the family and this is of great interest to family
historians who often find a miller mentioned in
their researches. A member of the Hampshire
Mills Group, Mary Yoward, has compiled a database of
millers over the years. Eve Logan, who lived
in Cambridgeshire, had been constructing a similar
database of millers in the east and north, died in
2000, and her research has been incorporated into
the database which now exceeds 30,000 references,
which patchily covers English counties. A database
of millwrights has also been compiled which contains
about 3,000 names.
Details include the millers name, town, mill,
date with notes and the source of the information.

Headley Mill is here
These databases may be found on
the
