  welcome

The Hampshire Mills Group is now closed.

Sadly, after 42 years, it was not possible to carry on as our members and committee have grown older, moved away or are not able to participate in the activities of the group.

On a positive note, members are encouraged to join the Hampshire Industrial Archaeology Society where they will find a welcome.  It is quite fitting as the Hampshire Mills Group was an offshoot of the Southampton University Industrial Archaeology Group, which was the precursor to HIAS.

Site visitors who are seeking information on Hampshire Mills will find this site available through 2026.

A Facebook page Hampshiremills has been set up which will be a focus for those interested in the mills of Hampshire.

Finally the main repository for information on mills of all sorts and all places is the Mills Archive Trust.  The Archive of the Hampshire Mills Group has been deposited at the Archive and can be searched, along with all the newsletters available on this site.

mills open to the public

With over 240 watermills and 100 windmill sites Hampshire holds a wealth of history.   Keeping records up to date is a continuous task.  Our millennium project was to compile a complete photographic record of all extant Hampshire Mills.  We link here to some of the mills that are open to the public or are of general interest.

Please check with a mill before you visit to find out if and when they are open.
