The first volume covers the central area, including mills on the Rivers Itchen, Hamble and Meon, as well as tide and spring fed mills.  The book has details of seventy two mills, and over 500 millers are identified and 300 research references are listed in its 160 full colour pages in A5 format.  The example page shows the detailed information that is given on each mill.

The second volume covers the western area, including mills on the rivers Avon and Test and the New Forest, as well as tide and spring fed mills.  The book has details of ninety six mills, and over 900 millers are identified and 500 research references are listed in its 240 full colour A5 pages.  Twenty three further sites are recorded.  There are features on interesting events and social history ranging from the economics of milling to the number of children employed in silk weaving.  Follow families that have been at a single mill for over a hundred years.  Or trace the movement of a miller from one mill to another.

The third volume covers the north and eastern area, including mills on the rivers Blackwater, Enborne, Loddon, Rother and Wey.  The book has details of fifty six mills, and over 650 millers are identified and 300 research references are listed in its 172 full colour A5 pages.  Twelve further sites are recorded.  There are features on interesting events and social history ranging from the mechanism of mills to a commentary from an old timer on how mills worked and were worked.
