Condensed Minutes of the Annual
General Meeting of
Hampshire Mills Group held at Whitchurch Silk Mill
on 13th September 2013.
Members arrived on a rather rainy
evening and were able to admire, and possibly buy,
all the many things displayed in the shop at the
Silk Mill before going upstairs to the first floor
for the meeting; the café was open so that members
could buy refreshments before the meeting began at
7.30.
The Chairman, Andy Fish, welcomed
everyone to the mill and thanked Whitchurch Silk
Mill for allowing us to hold our meeting here
tonight.
Minutes
of the 2012 AGM were agreed to be a true record and
signed.
Chairman’s report.
The Chairman thanked the Committee for all their
hard work throughout the year, without which the
group could not run. He did not pick out anyone in
particular as the whole committee works hard to
ensure the group prospers. Book 1 of the “Mills &
Millers of Hampshire” has been reprinted and the
last volume, Book 3 in the series is now
available. He thanked everyone who had given time
surveying, photographing, searching records and
documents to make the series of books so
interesting.
There has been some restoration
carried out by the Mills Group over the past year,
namely cleaning and painting the turbine control
gear at Shears Mill, Bishopstoke, which is now
inside the new building; maintenance at Hockley and
Longbridge Mills and some fine locksmithing to make
a new key for Headley.
Secretary’s report.
The Secretary, said that sending out
our Newsletters electronically had been the greatest
help – she now only sends out about fifty copies by
post. This keeps the costs down dramatically.
Membership Secretary.
Mick Edgeworth said that we have 131 members which
is an increase; 50 single, 36 couples, 8 corporate
and one honorary. Mick was
thanked for all his hard work.
Election of officers.
Sheila Viner is giving up her
editorship of the Newsletter after the Christmas
issue and she was warmly thanked by members for her
five years as Editor. Ros
Plunkett has offered to take on the Editorship and
is co-opted onto the Committee. Carol O’Shaughnessy,
who has taken Committee Meeting minutes for some
years but will no longer do this, was elected to the
Committee, proposed by Andy Fish and seconded by
Alison Stott. The rest of the Committee remain
unchanged.
The AGM finished at 9 p.m. and was
followed by a General Meeting.
