Chairman's Update

Andy Fish

Our Christmas Meeting and buffet lunch was held on Saturday 5th December 2015 at Woodley Village Hall, Romsey.  After our lunch, we were entertained to a illustrated talk on “Water Turbines” presented by Jeff Hawksley and very interesting it was too.

Our next meeting on the 5th March will include a talk by Peter Hill, former chairman of Sussex Mills Group, who will give us an illustrated talk entitled ‘Mills Around the World’.

Our AGM this year will be held again at Warnford Village Hall on Friday 9th September at 7.30pm.

Due to the recent changes in the food hygiene and labelling regulations, Mitchells & Butlers the owners of Longbridge Mill have decided to stop selling the flour that we produce during our demonstrations.  We will however still be giving our demonstrations every month.

Our Newsletter Editor Ros Plunkett has decided to retire and this will be the last newsletter that will produced by her.  I would like to thank her for all the hard work she has put in to produce our first class newsletters.

I am very sorry to have to report our President John Silman has been in Hospital four about 4 weeks.  It would appear he is suffering with an infection and problems with his balance, I’m sure you will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Finally, if you have any news of either your mill or mills that we can share at our meetings would you be kind enough to let me know so we can announce it at our meeting.

I look forward to seeing you all at our March Meeting.

Editor’s Comment

Ros Plunkett

After seven years as Editor of the Hampshire Mills Group Newsletter:  (2003 - 2008 and 2013 to 2016) I have made the decision to “retire”.

I have very much enjoyed all the contacts I have made over the years and all the knowledge I have gained.  It hasn’t always been easy but my life has been made much easier by those of you who have contributed articles , some on a very regular basis.

I would particularly like to thank: Chris Corcoran and Mike Matthews, Nigel Harris,  Andy Fish and of course, my husband David Plunkett who not only helped me to fill the gaps but also acted as “proof reader”.

I wish my successor  “Good Luck” and I will endeavour to continue writing the odd article for future editions.
