It could be said that the county of
Hampshire has more than its fair share of tide mills
a fact which makes Hampshire unique. The inlets
and creeks of our coastline and waterways have
provided excellent opportunities for harnessing
water power and this exhibition will demonstrate the
skill of Britains earliest milling engineers in
doing just that. Other European countries also have
tide mills and you can compare the ingenuity
employed in creating them. David Plunkett is the
