Dalton Mills, Keighley

Ruth and Keith Andrews

It has been reported that the remains of Dalton Mills in Keighley, which were gutted by fire in March do not currently need to be demolished for safety reasons.  Historic England says it is working with Bradford Council to bring the fire-ravaged mill “back into beneficial use for the area.

Dalton Mills in Keighley was once the largest textile mill in Yorkshire, employing over 2000 workers, and was built by Joseph Craven in 1869.

The mills are listed Grade 2*, and the complex is of more than special interest in its elaborate styling, with unusually ornate ironwork, and rare features such as the chimney.

These pictures give a good impression of the scale of the  damage and the extensive clearing-up operation that will be needed.
